Nizamabad: District Collector Dr Yogitha Rana urged the officials of various departments to work with sincerity and commitment while implementing government health schemes meant for lactating mothers, pregnant women and infants.

Addressing the gathering at a meeting with the ICDS officials, district health officers and supervisors, ANM and others in Armoor town on Tuesday, she lamented that 50 per cent of women below the age of 50 were suffering from anemia.

The District Collector said that although 94 per cent of pregnant women had registered at the anganwadi centres, the percentage of women taking nutritious food under the Arogyalakshmi scheme was very less. She pulled up the officials for being indifferent in holding the national health day at the village level on the first of every month and health day on Wednesday every week.

Colector Rana said that only 69 per cent of the pregnant women were immunized and if there is no improvement, it would be difficult to reach the health targets in the district fixed by the government.

She said that the job of monitoring the heath of the pregnant women and the infant at the village level was entrusted to the supervisors of primary health centres, ICDS officers, para-medical staff and ANMs. They should work with dedication, she added.

The District lauded the efforts of district medical and health officer for participating in the conference on Tuesday morning though he attended to four cases of deliveries in the hospital the previous night.

She said that nobody should die due to anemia or lack of immunization and added that the situation should improve in three months. She said that the biometric system of attendance would be introduced to monitor the village level workers.

World Bank Advisor Padma said that proper nutrition should be provided and vaccination drops administered to the infants from their foetal stage till they attain two years of age to protect their health. Several ICDS officials participated in the conference.
