Farmers attack SRSP EE office.
Farmers and Telugu Desam workers, led by former MLA Chinthakunta Vijaya Ramana Rao, attacked the office of Executive Engineer of Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) at Sultanabad on Thursday demanding immediate release of irrigation water to protect the withering crops.
Peddapalli (Karimnagar): Farmers and Telugu Desam workers, led by former MLA Chinthakunta Vijaya Ramana Rao, attacked the office of Executive Engineer of Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) at Sultanabad on Thursday demanding immediate release of irrigation water to protect the withering crops.
Earlier, they staged rasta roko on Rajiv Rahadari in the mandal headquarters for about two hours to press their demand. They raised slogans against the TRS government for its failure to safeguard the interests of SRSP ayacut farmers. The agitators burnt tyres and smashed the window panes of a bus as part of their protest.
Police intervened and persuaded the agitators to give up their road blockade. After that, they went to the EE office of SRSP. On seeing the office locked, the TDP activists broke open the main door and destroyed furniture.
Tension prevailed for some time. A police team rushed to the place and brought the situation under control.
Speaking to newsmen, Vijaya Ramana Rao threatened to intensify stir if SRSP officials failed to release water immediately to save the crops.
