Hyderabad: The west zone task force police on Thursday apprehended three persons for attempting to sell an antique idol dating back to 3rd century BC.
The sleuths of task force received a tip-off that some unknown persons have bought an idol of ‘Mahishasura Mardhini’ and were finding prospective buyers near Ameerpet.
The police team then rushed to the spot and caught the three persons who were carrying the idol. Khaled Chawoosh (30), a wild life guardian, Khaja Moinuddin (26), both from Raichur and Syed Nazeeruddin (36), a driver from Banjara Hills, were taken into custody , while one Patil of Belgam absconded from the spot.
Task force DCP B Limba Reddy said few days ago accused Patil informed Khaled that he has one idol of ‘Mahishasura Mardini’ which belongs to Chola period and wanted to sell it.
He sought Khaled’s help and offered 40 per cent commission. Through a friend in Bengaluru, they contacted Nazeeruddin and offered him 20 per cent commission for finding a customer.
On Thursday, police nabbed the accused when they were trying to sell the idol in Ameerpet. He said after examination by Archeology department, it was found that the idol was dated back to Chola period and worth about Rs 2 crore in the international market.
