REJIG OF DISTRICTS

Hyderabad: With the number of districts going to increase in the State, the district series in vehicle registration numbers are also bound to change apart from increase in the number of offices and staff of the transport department.

Telangana government had recently released draft notification for forming new districts in the State. As per the draft notification, the government proposes to set up 17 new districts. The vehicles in Telangana are given numbers based on the 10 districts. Government in October 2015 had issued a notification asking the citizens to change the number series from AP to TS giving four months’ time.

However, the time was extended further as four months time was not sufficient to cover 75 lakh vehicles in the State. With districts going to increase in another two to three months, the officials would have to set up new district series. Sources said that the transport department officials deliberated on the number series in a meeting couple of days back.

The officials felt that there would be need for additional staff with increase in the number of districts, sources said. Presently, the district number series in the State is in the form of a circle as sought by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. The codes are Adilabad-TS 01, Karimnagar- TS 02, Warangal TS 03, Khammam-TS 04, Nalgonda-TS 05, Mahbubnagar-TS 06, Medak-TS 15 and Nizamabad-TS 16.

The city codes of Hyderabad and Rangareddy from number 9 to 14 will remain unchanged. Sources said that at present there are 49 RTA offices in the State and number is likely to increase along with the districts.
