Hyderabad: Stating that the corporate forces were ruling the country's economics, CPI general secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy on Sunday said that there was a need for the Communists and democratic forces to fight against this.

Talking to reporters along with other Communist leaders, Reddy paid tributes to Ramakrishna, Balaswamy and Vishnuvardhan Reddy, who died in police firing during the power agitation at Basheerbagh 16 years ago.

He recalled that during the year 2000, Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu had ordered fire on the Communists, who called for “Chalo Assembly” against the increase of power tariff.

He alleged that Naidu made Andhra Pradesh as a laboratory for World Bank for his own benefits and did not hesitate to use bullets against the Communists, who opposed this.

CPI national secretary K Narayana said that if any government tried to scuttle the democratic protests, it would backfire on them. He said that not only in the State but also in the country there was no freedom of expression and the attacks on dalits, tribals and Christians were examples for this. CPM secretary T Veerabhadram, CPI State secretary Chada Venkata Reddy and others were also present.
