Hyderabad: The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting chaired by Assembly Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary on Tuesday decided to hold monsoon session of the Assembly from September 20. Responding to the demand of the Opposition party leaders that the present session be converted into a monsoon session, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said that if the one-day special session was extended then it may not be possible to have a session for more than 4 or 5 days since Ganesh Chaturthi festival begins and Bakrid also falls on September 10.

He said the government had made elaborate security arrangements for the two festivals following intelligence reports on the possible terror strikes. Hence, the government had decided to have a 10-day session from September 20. This would give sufficient time for the Assembly to discuss various issues, the Chief Minister said. Later, talking to mediapersons, Opposition leaders said they had agreed to the suggestion made by the Chief Minister.

The Opposition leaders said that they would train their guns to expose the Telangana government’s failure in addressing people’s issues. They would also demand a full-fledged discussion on the agreement entered into between the Telangana State and Maharashtra on irrigation projects, they said. TDP member S Venkata Veeraiah raised the issue of the allocation of TDLP office in Assembly premises but the Speaker said that the issue could be discussed at a different forum.
