Hyderabad: Justice B Siva Shankara Rao of High Court at Hyderabad on Wednesday issued bailable warrant against TRS nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson and complainant in the cash- for-vote case in a contempt of court case.

The order followed the failure of the MLA to appear in the court in response to a notice in a contempt case. The contempt case arose over an application by Stephenson requiring the judge to recuse from hearing a case. It led to the court finding petitioner is liable to be punished for criminal contempt of court.

Justice Siva Shankar directed the city Police Commissioner to execute the warrant and the MLA was directed to furnish Rs 1 lakh personal surety during the execution of warrant and also directed the MLA to be present before the court on September 30.

As reported earlier, Jerusalem Mathaiah, who is one of the accused in the cash-for-vote case, moved a petition for quashing of criminal proceedings issued against him by the Anti- Corruption Bureau in the scam. The ACB arrayed him as abettor for the crime.

The court stayed the arrest of Mathaiah in June 2015. After that Stephenson moved an application before the judge, praying the judge to recuse from the hearing of quash petition. When this petition came up for hearing on Wednesday, the judge found that the MLA was not appearing before the court despite issuance of notice and issued bailable warrant.
