The Chairman of APAT by an order issued contempt notices to the practising lawyer on the alleged ground that he had made certain disparaging comments against the Chairman amounting to contempt of court.

Adinarayana Murthy of the Excise Department and the advocate moved the High Court challenging the action APAT. The bench admitted the writ petition and stayed the contempt notice.
