Warangal: Even as uncertainty and firm opposition is prevailing over creation of Hanamkonda district, the Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) from the USA extended their support to the locals against the proposal.

North American Telugu Association (NATA) president-elect Gangasani Rajeshwar Reddy, who hails from Kundaram village near Jangaon in Warangal district, has described the proposal as ‘nonsensical’ one. He wanted the State government to withdraw the plan to divide Hanamkonda and Warangal.

Speaking to The Hans India, he said the NRIs from the district were condemning the idea of dividing historic Warangal city as it lacked rationale. “We are strongly opposing it and we will move High Court if needed as we have supported the TRS during Statehood agitation. We have the right and duty to see that the aspirations of public are honoured,” he said.

Rajeshwar Reddy is here on Monday to express solidarity to locals opposing Hanamkonda district and supporting creation of Jangaon district. Entire process of creation of new districts in Telangana is lopsided and opposition parties should have been made part in the districts reorganisation committee, he felt.

“It is sad to see that the demands for creation of Jangaon and Gadwal districts are unheard for while the government is intending to divide Warangal city, which none demanded,” Rajeshwar Reddy and an NRI Md M Murtuza lamented.

“Former Ministers P Lakshmaiah and DK Aruna have staged 48-hour deekshas seeking creation of Jangaon and Gadwal respectively. Yet the government remained irresponsive to the issue,” said city Congress working president Rajanala Srihari.

On the other hand, Brahmana Seva Samithi leaders wanted proposed Hanamkonda district to be named after former PM, the late PV Narasimha Rao. The Samithi leaders Bhadrakali Sheshu, G Upendra Sharma, Dr Viswanatha Rao, Valluri Pavan Kumar and others made an appeal to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in this connection.

PV who was born in Warangal has made great contributions to strengthen Indian economy and boosted the image of the nation at an international level. Naming Hanamkonda district after him would be a fitting tribute to him,” they explained.

Meanwhile, debates are going on among political circles over the governments’ fresh plan to create Warangal Urban and Warangal Rural districts in the place of Hanamkonda district. As per the new proposal, district headquarters comprising tri-cities of Warangal-Hanamkonda-Kazipet would remain as it is.

Warangal Rural district is proposed to be called as Bhadrakali or Kakatiya district. It might consist of Wardhannapet, Atmakur, Geesukonda, Sangem, Parkal, Shayampet, Inavolu, Parvatagiri, Chennaraopet, Narasampet, Nekkonda, Khanapuram, Duggondi and Nallabelli mandals.
