Hyderabad: Leader of Opposition in Telangana State Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir has slammed the TRS government for its failure in extracting aid from the Central government in accordance with Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.

Addressing a media conference at Gandhi Bhavan here on Friday, Shabbir Ali said Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had announced a special package worth Rs. 2.25 lakh crore for Andhra Pradesh. But the Finance Minister had not even spoken a word on the status of promises made for the benefit of Telangana State under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.

  • Union government has announced `2.25 lakh crore to Andhra Pradesh, he says
  • ‘But, the Telangana State has been meted a raw deal’
  • Says KCR is behaving like a ‘Sheikh Chilli’

"At the time of bifurcation, the then UPA government had given several assurances to Telangana. They included setting up of Bayyaram steel plant, 4,000 MW power plant at Ramagundam, Horticulture and Tribal Universities, Central institutions and other sops. However, not a single promise made in the Act has been fulfilled so far. The TRS government in the State or BJP-led NDA government at the Centre should be held responsible for non-fulfilment of the promises" he asked.

He demanded that the Centre extend a financial package to Telangana on a par with Andhra Pradesh. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was behaving like a “Sheikh Chilli” who always was making tall claims. "He only makes tall claims like a “Sheikh Chilli.”

But he scored zero when it came to performance. With his ideocracy, KCR had turned a revenue-surplus Telangana State into a bankrupt and debt-ridden State in 27 months. While Central government was giving Rs. 2.25 lakh crore to AP, KCR was trying to borrow loans for each and every project.

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi's maiden visit to Telangana State last month, instead of asking for funds, the Chief Minister asked for his “love and affection,” he said, adding that ties between Modi and KCR would only help KCR's family and people of the State would gain nothing out of it. He said KCR could not even get High Court bifurcated, he said.
