Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has decided to hold a party workers meeting at Gajwel on Monday to extend solidarity to the people of Vemulaghat village which falls under Mallannasagar project. The agitation launched by people of the village will complete 100 days by September 12.

Speaking to the media after a meeting with the affected farmers under Mallannasagar project at Gandhi Bhavan here on Friday along with party leaders Damodara Rajanarasimha, Sunitha Laxma Reddy, Mallu Ravi, Thurpu Jayaprakash Reddy and others, TPCC Chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy described forcible acquisition of land by terrorising people by deploying police and Revenue officials as unfortunate.

He said the government was extending compensation to the farmworkers and other artisans only after the Congress party knocked on the doors of the High Court. Finding fault with Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao criticising the Congress party for approaching the courts, Uttam Kumar Reddy said it was democratic right given by the Constitution.

“We approached courts because the TRS government is violating the rights of the people,” he said and alleged that the State government had resorted to deception by acquiring land during the gap between one hearing and another and also during the time granted by the High Court to facilitate the government to reply to the petition under the court’s scrutiny.

The TPCC president said the Vemulaghat village people were completing 100 days of agitation against the TRS government on September 12 and the party was convening a solidarity meeting with party activists at Gajwel. The party leaders would meet the President on September 12 and 13 and convey the violations committed by the State government in acquiring the land for projects.

He said the party would also approach the Supreme Court in this regard and lodge a complaint with the Union government too. He said he would submit a memorandum to Governor E S L Narasimhan on September 10 in this regard.
