Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President N Uttam Kumar Reddy accused the State government of meting out a raw deal to farmers under Mallannasagar project. Addressing the Forum for Godavari Waters Utilisation chairman Marri Shashidhar Reddy’s ‘Deeksha’ at Indira Park here on Sunday, Uttam Kumar Reddy made it clear that the Congress party would continue its agitation until the farmers secured justice.

Shashidhar Reddy launched ‘Deeksha’ in support of the party’s demand for justice to outstees under the Mallannasagar project. He alleged that the TRS government had abandone the Pranahitha-Chevella project, which was viable technically, and had taken up Kaleswaram project under the guise of redesigning only commissions.

He said that the experts were of the opinion that a small pump house was enough at Mallannasagar, but the State government had embarked on building a huge reservoir to store 50 tmcft of water.

The government, he said, had been intimidating the farmers for staging protests peacefully against the project. The government had been acquiring land forcefully by threatening the farmers, he said. Former PCC chiefs Ponnala Laxmaiah and V Hanumantha Rao, former Minister D K Aruna and others participated.
