Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya demanded that the Telangana government should officially celebrate September 17 as Hyderabad Liberation Day. He was speaking at a round-table conference held in Hyderabad on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) chairman M Kodandaram said the day - September 17 - had created a significant event in the history of Hyderabad.

September 17, 1948, was the day when the Hyderabad State, which was under the Nizam’s rule, was integrated into the Indian Union.

“That has lot of significance, from that day onwards Nizam’s rule came to an end and it became part of Indian Republic,” he added.

Khairatabad MLA C Ramachandra Reddy, Justice L Narasimha Reddy, lyricist and writer Suddala Ashok Teja, Telangana JAC co-convinors Mallepalli Lakshmaih, Venkat Reddy, poet and folk singer Goreti Venkanna, freedom fighter Baburao Verma and other dignitaries also participated in the function.
