Nalgonda: All the Ganesh idols were taken out in a colourful procession in Nalgonda town and other towns in the district on Wednesday after the conclusion of navrathri puja.

Several Ganesh idols were immersed in the Left Canal of Nagarjuna Sagar Project at 14th milestone near Anumula village; Vallabharao tank located along Addanki-Narketpally road near Nalgonda; and Musi Project in Kethepally mandal with devotional spirit. The procession of Ganesh idols started at 12 pm in Nalgonda and reached the Clock Tower centre at around 2 pm. The people participated in the procession by dancing to the drum beats and raising slogans of Lord Ganesh.

The idols more than six feet tall were taken to 14th mile stone of Left Canal of Nagarjuna Sagar Project and small idols to Vallabharao tank. Two cranes were used at both the immersion points.

The traffic was diverted at Clock Tower centre due to the Ganesh idols procession.

Nalgonda Revenue Division Officer Venkata Chary informed the media that the idols’ immersion at 14th milestone was started in the evening and would continue till 2 pm. Lighting arrangements were made at 14th milestone to continue the immersion process in night. It was expected that 600 Ganesh idols would be immersed at 14th milestone, he added.

The Ganesh immersion was peacefully completed in Bhongir, Suryapet, Nakrekal, Miryalaguda, Kodad and Devarakonda towns. The Ganesh idols from Suryapet town, Kethepally, Kattangur and Shaligowraram mandals were brought to Musi project for immersion.

As the officials haven’t arranged any cranes at Musi project, the devotees faced tough time in immersing their idols in the water and had to do it on their own risk.

The police made elaborate security arrangements for Ganesh immersion procession and at immersion points. In all, 1,200 police personnel were pressed into service for Ganesh immersion. The police laid a special focus on sensitive areas in Nalgonda and conducted search by dog squad.

Police Superintendent N Prakash Reddy personally supervised the security arrangements for Ganesh immersion.
