Warangal: Retired professor in English of Kakatiya University S Lakshmana Murthy has appealed the people to learn Sanskrit as no other language could give such an enjoyment while reading.

He urged public to uphold the values defined in the Vedas, Upanishads and other Hindu religious scriptures. Highlighting the greatness of ‘Sanatana Dharma’, he said ‘India is a rich country. We should feel proud of this nation for its great legacy’ Prof Lakshmana Murthy attended the prize distribution programme organised by Srinagar Colony (South) Ganesh Utsava Samithi in Hanamkonda. Quoting from writings of great sage Adi Shankaracharya and great poet Kalidasa, he stressed the importance of keeping the body and soul clean.

He asked the people not to emulate foreign culture and should sustain Indian culture and traditions.

KU Law College Dean Prof MV Ranga Rao, addressing the gathering, lauded the colony development committee and Ganesh Utsava Samithi for organising the nine-day long festival in traditional way by giving importance to culture and traditions.

With an intention to help the underprivileged, the Samithi every year invites inmates of physically or mentally challenged homes to present cultural programmes donate funds to those performed.

This year, inmates of Athithi Manovikasa Kendram presented cultural programmes like dancing to devotional and patriotic tunes. Impressed with their inspiring performance, the residents raised and donated cash of Rs 15,000 rupees, groceries worth Rs 5000 and 2.25 quintals of rice to them.

Similarly ‘The Challenge Dream Dance Troupe’, a group of physically challenged youth was also invited to perform at the colony’s Ganesh pandal. The troupe leader G Santhosh was presented an amount of Rs 15,000.

Speaking to The Hans India, the Samithi convener Paladugu Chandraprakash Rao said ‘We are moved by their performances and learnt the fact that they are not disabled in spirit’. We wanted to instil philanthropic spirit in the residents and that was why such programmes were being taken up, the colony development committee in-charge president K Veeraiah added.

Sulakshya Seva Samithi president Manduva Sanmthosh, the colony committee general secretary B Narayana, members A Buchi Reddy, D Malakonda Reddy, M Ravinder Reddy, K Aagaiah, D Sammaiah, and others were present.
