Thrown open four decades ago, the existing RoB has been a pivotal link between Hanamkonda and Kazipet to cross the railway track (Kazipet-Balharsha). Or else, the people will have to take a strenuous and roundabout route passing through Hunter Road, Rangaleela Maidan, Bhattupalli and Kadipikonda flyover. It takes about 20 kilometers additional travel.

However, the 60—feet width and one kilometer RoB constructed with an outlay of Rs 35 crore in mid 1970s was a huge relief in those days, traffic congestion has become a perennial problem for the last couple of decades with the ever increasing vehicular traffic in the city.

It’s a herculean task for the traffic police to clear the stranded vehicles on the RoB whenever there was a breakdown of vehicles. This apart, the vehicles proceeding to FCI godown on Kazipet side are also adding to the woes of traffic problem.
A day will not pass without traffic jam on Fatima Nagar RoB,” Basiri Venkata Rajgopal, a government teacher, who regularly accesses the RoB.

Against this backdrop, the Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, reportedly gave green signal for the construction of another RoB alongside the existing one. According to sources, the government is ready to sanction Rs 365 crore for the construction of RoB making it a four-lane road to ease the congestion.

The new RoB is expected to come up on the left side (Hanamkonda to Kazipet) of the existing one as there were no structures. For the purpose, the administration has to acquire some part of land belonging to Gabriel Schools, while the rest is of Railways.

Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari said: “A detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared within a month for the construction of another RoB with 60-feet width. The project will be completed on a war-footing.”

Railways chief engineer Ashok said that there are no technical issues that may cause hiccups for construction of RoB. The Gabriel School representatives expressed their willingness to offer their support for the construction of RoB. Highways chief engineer Ganapathi Reddy said that the authorities will submit a report to the Central government for its clearance.
