Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is considering bringing about 1.5 lakh buildings, which pay sales tax, possess commercial connections of both electricity and water but have not obtained trade licenses, under tax net.

The GHMC officials have estimated that the move would bring in additional revenue Rs 100 crore under trade license collection. The revenue under the trade licence head now stands at Rs 60 crore. As of now, the GHMC collects trade license fee from 1.40 lakh commercial properties. The civic body in order to simplify the trade license process has decided to issue online trade license to tenants.

A senior GHMC official told The Hans India that the GHMC had already embarked on a massive survey to take up the exercise to rationalise the trade licenses and set target to collect Rs 60 crore by October end. He said civic body would collect the data from Commercial Taxes Department,

Electricity Department and Water Board in order to bring properties under trade license net. He said during the preliminary survey it was noticed that about 1.5 lakh properties were not under trade license net though they were paying Sales Tax and possess commercial connections of both Water and electricity.

The GHMC official further said a target was set to collect of Rs 160 crore during the current financial year under trade licence head. He said the GHMC had been granting permissions not only to the commercial property owners but also to tenants to run business. However, the GHMC sources said the move by the GHMC may expose high-level corruption by a section of the staff.
