A two judge bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice U Durga Prasad Rao on Friday heard arguments on the batch of writ pleas on the Mallannasagar Project and the controversial GO Ms 123.

State Advocate General K Ramakrishna said the provisions of the new Land Acquisition Act was not required to be followed. He said the government has powers under Article 298 of the Constitution to procure the land outside the provisions of the Acquisition Act.

Earlier in the day, various counsels appearing for the farmers and farmworkers continued their arguments and pointed out various facets of alleged illegality and irregularity in the acquisition and procurement of the land. The bench at the request of the Advocate General adjourned the case to Wednesday.
