Khammam: TPCC working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said that Congress will fight against the TRS government to ensure the implementation of Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, thereby to protect the rights of Adivasis.

Bhatti, who visited several villages under Chandrugonda mandal where Podu cultivation is being practiced by tribal community people as part of Poru Yatra, spoke to media persons at Marrigudem on Saturday. The TRS government is bulldozing the rights of tribal people, who have been practicing Podu for decades to make a living,” he said, recalling that it was during the regime of the UPA government the Forest Rights Act was passed to ensure Adivasis live upright.

However, the TRS government led by K Chandrashekar Rao has been diluting the Act ever since it came to power. From Adilabad forests to Khammam thickets, the tribal people are leading a miserable life due to State’s lackadaisical approach in implementing the Forest Rights Act, he added.

The government is making the tribal people to leave their natural habitats with its coercive measures using forest and police forces, he alleged, accusing the forest officials of damaging standing crops on Podu land in the name of Haritha Haram programme.

Forget about the TRS’ pre-poll promise to give three acres land to dalits, the government is even trying to snatch away the Podu land which has been in possession of tribal people for a long time,” Bhatti said, asserting that Congress will stand for the Adivasis and wage a relentless fight against the government until it ensures the implementation of the Act properly.

Bhatti said that the issue will be taken to the notice of the AICC president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi to exert pressure on the Central government for the implementation of Forest Rights Act in letter and spirit.

Asserting that Congress will make a comeback to the power in 2019, he assured that their party will issue land pattas to all the eligible tribal community people.Former minister Vanama Venkateswara Rao, former Mahbubabad MP Balaram Naik, DCC president Aitham Satyam and former Pinapaka MLA Rega Kantha Rao were among others present.
