Create awareness among dalits: SC corporation chief

Nizamabad: State Scheduled Castes (SC) Corporation Chairman Dr Pidamarthi Ravi urged the officials to explain to the poor Dalit families about the social welfare and development programmes taken up by the State government for the upliftment of the scheduled castes. He paid a visit to the SC Corporation office at the Pragathi Bhawan in the town on Tuesday to review the programmes.

Dr Ravi said that the government introduced the land purchase scheme with the sole objective of distributing three acres of land to the poor dalits to turn them into farmers. Keeping in view the previous experiences, the government would be distributing fertile lands to them so that they could cultivate crops, he added.

The SC chairman said that the lands would be kept by the government for 15 years to prevent them from getting encroached. Under the land purchase scheme, the government would acquire 10, 000 acres of land to distribute it to the poor dalits.

He expressed happiness that the land purchase scheme was already in existence in Nizamabad. The State government would sanction sufficient amount of funds for implementing the financial schemes and land purchase schemes.
