Nalgonda: In a case of material wealth gains precedence over family values, the body of a 65-year-old man was disposed off not by his kin but the humane villagers. He gave his everything to the daughter but she turned her back on him when he needed support. The common misconception among people is that girls are more affectionate towards the family than the boys. But here is an example, which disproves this myth. But whether it is the girl or son, they share the family property, but not the responsibility.
A senior citizen Punna Lakshminarayana, a widower, was leading a lonely life in Kapugallu of Kodada mandal of Nalgonda district ever since his wife died 15 years ago. He performed marriages of his son and daughter and gave his daughter an acre as dowry. And also he got a patta obtained on her name for the remainder of the one-acre farm he cultivated till recently. He did it so at the insistence of the daughter.
Nobody knows what had transpired between him and his daughter. On September 19, he returned home from the daughter’s place and committed suicide by consuming poison. A case of death under suspicious circumstances was registered. After a post-mortem, his mortal remains were handed over to the relatives.
Peeved at not getting any property from his father, the son refused to light the funeral pyre and left the body to the mercy of the villagers. The daughter showed no interest in performing the last rites. As the body remained three days unattended in the village, the villagers and the sarpanch out of humanity pooled resources and efforts and disposed of the body. Kapugallu former sarpanch Seshagiri Rao and villagers Devarasetty Venkateswarlu and A Bhushayyya were instrumental in conducting the funeral.
