Secunderabad: During the times when man thinks about his own requirements and cares less about fellow beings, comes a pleasant surprise when a dozen volunteers lined up precariously in the forcefully flowing floodwater to guide pedestrians and vehicle-users in Alwal to cross over safely. This helped ease the traffic flow otherwise which could have taken long time to clear during the rush hour.

This exercise, which continued till late in the evening, was not a photo op one or supported by politicians. It was sheer humanity at its best. Who says that man is a selfish creature? It was 10 cm rainfall in Bolarum. This was enough to fill the Alwal Cheruvu to its brim. The lake could not hold the inflows from Macha Bolarum anymore. The overflow began just around midnight on Tuesday.

The overflowed water meandered through the colonies of houses that have come up downstream of the Alwal Lake and flowed into the Venkatapuram Cheruvu and Old Alwal Cheruvu. The powerful torrent of water cut through the main road from Temple Alwal to IG Statue in Old Alwal. This stretch is a busy one and connects Alwal with Suchitra Crossroads. The band of volunteers was ably supported by the traffic police and municipal workers of Alwal division of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. May this tribe grow and this message spread to inspire many.
