New Delhi: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday and appealed to him to release Rs 300 crore for laying roads in rural areas of Karimnagar and Adilabad districts under the Rural Roads Project.

The Chief Minister, who stayed back in Delhi after attending the Apex Council meeting on Krishna Water dispute with Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, thanked the Union Minister for announcing Rs 1,290 crore for developing highways along the Pranahita project and Godavari river in the two districts.

The proposal should be cleared by the Cabinet at the earliest, he urged. The issue was taken up with Rajnath Singh because these areas mentioned by him fall under Extremist Activity Areas where the Home Ministry has power to allocate funds for development (for tribal areas).

Earlier, at his meeting with Union Labour Minister B Dattatreya, KCR appealed to the latter to help the State secure funds promised for backward districts in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, at the earliest. Handing over a list of pending proposals with the Centre, he appealed to Dattatreya to use his offices in getting the releases at the earliest.

He also urged him to ensure that the works on Ramagundam Fertilisers begin soon as the Prime Minister himself had laid the foundation for the same recently. Later, speaking to the media, Dattatreya said the Centre was keen to do its bit for the development of Telangana. Members of the Union Cabinet and the PM himself had high regard for KCR, he added.
