Hyderabad: The Congress party on Monday accused the government of failure in ensuring foolproof system in restoring tanks fully under the Mission Kakatiya. Speaking to media persons at Congress Legislature Party office, Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir said most of the tanks, which the government claimed to have revived, developed breaches because of faulty repair works.

  • He denies allegation that the previous Congress has encouraged illegal structures on nalas

If the de-silting and other works were carried out properly, the tanks would not have breached and they could be used to store rainwater. He alleged that the apathy on the part of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had been causing huge damage to the entire State.

Thousands of farmers had lost their crops in recent heavy rains and now they were unable to claim insurance as banks did not pay the premium due to non-payment of third instalment for the crop loan waiver scheme by the State government. He demanded that the State government pay compensation to all farmers who suffered crop damage.

Shabbir Ali ridiculed the Chief Minister's contention that rains had not wreaked much damage. Urging KCR to visit the affected areas, he said that the Chief Minister was trying to downplay the tragedy to avoid facing further criticism. Welcoming the decision of State government to remove illegal structures on nalas, he expressed doubts over the Chief Minister’s determination to ensure that illegal structures were razed.

Shabbir Ali slammed KCR for targeting the previous Congress government for illegal constructions in the city. "You are in power for the last 27 months and what prevented you from demolishing these illegal structures. There are thousands of houses on nalas and catchments areas which TRS government regularised under GO 58 and 59. Why you did not speak about these 28,000 illegal houses before GHMC elections," he asked.
