Wanaparty: With the flood water spreading all around, there was no room left for cremation of a woman who died near Rangasamudram Balancing Reservoir at Nagarala village in Pebberu mandal on Monday.
With the increasing flood-level at the reservoir alleged to have caused unbearable agony to a woman living in the vicinity, Komari Ammannamma (55) died here. But, unfortunately, the relatives of the deceased could not dispose of the body as there was no place suitable for cremation.
As part of the rehabilitation measures after evacuation, the village was divided into three segments for the purpose of arranging shelter for the villagers. None of these segments had a provision for cremation of the dead. On the top of it, the burial ground that had been used by the villagers, hither to, was also flooded.
The villagers complain that excess waters were released from the reservoir in a hurry without making any proper arrangements for fool-proof rehabilitation. “Lack of 6-feet space for cremation of a body highlights the negligent and indifferent attitude of the officials,” a villager quipped.
