Nalgonda: The elected representatives including MLAs will not involve in the selection of beneficiaries for double bedroom houses scheme, clarified the Minister for Power, G Jagadish Reddy.Speaking at the Zilla Parishad general body meeting here on Wednesday, Jagadish Reddy said the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao told the MLAs not to involve in the selection of beneficiaries for 2 BHK scheme so as not to give scope for criticism.

The officials would be accorded full powers in the selection process. At the same time, stringent action would be taken against the responsible officials, if any ineligible person was selected for the scheme. It would also applicable to several welfare schemes including subsidy tractors under farm mechanisation scheme, he added.

When some ZPTCS and MPPs raised the issue of ineligible persons, including NRIs, getting the benefits of input subsidy of the farmers, the Minister said it was the responsibility of the elected representatives of local bodies to ensure that the benefits of various government welfare schemes reached the genuine persons.

From now onwards, the list of farmers selected for input subsidy would be displayed on the notice board of Gram Panchayats to bring transparency. He asked the elected representatives of local bodies to bring the matter to the notice of the District Collector, if any irregularity came to their notice in the implementation of welfare schemes.

The Minister also assured that the State government will release the pending input subsidy of Rs 86 crores in the district within 10 days. A district-level bankers meeting would be convened in a week to sort out the complaints made by the elected representatives that the banks were denying to crop loans to the farmers, Minister Jagadish Reddy added.

The Congress Deputy Floor leader Komatireddy Venkat Reddy expressed strong displeasure over the cutting of 40 per cent of 13th/14th finance funds of the gram panchayats in the name of electricity bills and other taxes, which showing an adverse effect on the development of gram panchayats.

He wanted the government to desist from such action keeping in view of development of the villages, he added. He urged the government to release the amount of fourth phase of crop loans waiver to facilitate the farmers to get fresh loans.

Nalgonda MP Gutha Sukender Reddy pointed out that some villages recorded heavy rainfall while there was almost nil rainfall in some mandals in the district. Hence, the enumeration of crops damage should be done by taking village as a unit, he added.

District Collector P Satyanarayana Reddy, MLAs Vemula Veeresham, Pylla Shaker Reddy, N Bhasker Rao, Gadari Kishore, MLCs Karne Prabhakar and Pula Ravinder, Zilla Parishad Chairman N Balu Naik and officials of different departments attended the meeting.
