​Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) along with Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation is contemplating to set a record by celebrating 'Maha Bathukamma' with 20,000 women at L B Stadium on October 8.

The mega event, which would be known as People’s Bathukamma, will be celebrated at a cost of about Rs 100 crore and will showcase cultural events like Bathukamma Dhoom Dhaam that would feature folk arts performed by noted artistes, food festival, to give a taste of the cuisine of Telangana and several other programmes which would glorify the State’s festival.

Mayor Bonthu Rammohan told The Hans India that about 20,000 women in two batches would gather at LB Stadium. He said tight security arrangements would made at the venue to ensure safety of women. He said several food stalls would be set up to promote authentic Telangana cuisine.

While professional artistes would perform the dance forms of Telangana on the specially erected stage, the women on the ground would follow them.

Rammohan further said in order to make the event colourful, the tourism department is also planning to have a dress code for women, who would participate in the 'festival of flowers'. He said Corporation along with Tourism department would decorate 140 junctions across the city.

On October 9, the venue would shift to Tank Bund which would be decorated with flowers and 3D lighting. In the evening, a gala show of bursting of fire crackers and laser show would be organised to make the festival a most memorable one. He said the mega event would even over shine the new celebration in world class cities like Sydney, New York, London, he added.
