Hyderabad: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has come down heavily on Opposition parties for criticising the State government over the delay in completing the Mid Manair dam works. Speaking to mediapersons here on Thursday, Finance Minister Eatala Rajender stated that the Opposition parties were making unnecessary fuss over the issue.

He said that the TDP, whose government in the past did nothing for farmers, was now criticising the TRS government. He said that during the TDP rule, police opened fire on farmers who were demanding power for agricultural sector. TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu often claimed to have built Hi-tech City but at the same time he did gross injustice to the farmers in the State, he said.

Rajender also slammed Congress saying that the party did nothing for the farmers. The Congress government spent crores of rupees in the name of Jalayagnam but the farmers did not benefit out of it. The Congress government did not provide irrigation even to five lakh acres of land in Telangana, he said.

Stating that the TRS government was working on a war-footing to complete the pending irrigation projects in the State, Rajender claimed that the government had spent Rs 675 crore for Mid-Manair dam works in two years. The dam could withstand heavy flooding, he said, adding that the dam overflowed as it received over 4 tmcft of water against its capacity of 3 tmcft of water.

The Minister said that the administration made timely intervention and ensured that there were no casualties due to heavy rains. He said that the administration took up relief measures and shifted the rain-affected people to relief camps. He said that over half of the tanks in the State had filled to the brim in the recent rains.

The government took up works of Kakatiya canal with the funds to the tune of Rs 130 crore. “The Opposition parties are afraid that they will have no future if the TRS government completes the projects. Hence, they are creating fuss over the issue to stall the works,” he alleged.
