Karimnagar: The major irrigation projects in the district which filled to the brim following recent heavy rains, have become tourist attractions. People in large numbers have started visiting Yellampalli project, Lower Manair dam and Upper Manair dam for sightseeing and to enjoy the cool environs.

The irrigation projects have reached near FRL after a gap of two years. Twelve crest gates of Lower Manair dam were lifted on Thursday night to release 20,000 cusecs of water downstream. People of the district headquarters welcomed the release of water.

About 2,000 cusecs of water is being released to Warangal town through Kakatiya Canal. More crest gates of the dam are likely to be lifted if the heavy inflows into it continue in the coming days.

Water from Yellampalli project is being released downstream for the past 10 days. The project located on the border of Adilabad and Karimnagar districts is attracting tourists from Mancherial and Ramagundam for its picturesque view.

The commencement of Dasara holiday season has contributed to the increase in tourist flow to the project sites. With a large number of tourists, the project sites are looking like picnic spots. Irrigation tanks in villages are also full with water bringing joy to farmers.

The Mission Bhagiratha has helped increase the storage capacity of the tanks and other water sources. Festive atmosphere seems to be pervading the villages and towns. Farmers are happy that there is plenty of irrigation water for the ensuing Rabi season.

Bathukamma festivities are likely to be at fever pitch this time as the State was blessed with bountiful rains. The irrigation projects with near FRL level after years of drought, are set to usher in prosperity of Telangana.
