Mahbubnagar: The heavy rainfall in the upstream areas of Jurala, Narayanpur and Almatti projects has filled all the projects up to their full reservoir levels (FRL) in the district. Particularly, the Jurala project is receiving heavy inflows of around 32,000 cusecs of water every day and the authorities are releasing the same amount of water through four out of six power houses into downstream of the Krishna River.

According to Jurala project authorities, about 2,650 cusecs of water is released through lift irrigation projects. “With good rains in the upstream areas, Jurala is receiving heavy inflows and we are releasing the water for both irrigation and power generation. We are expecting this flow to continue for about a week,” said Khagender, Chief Engineer of Jurala.

However, since this flow is only temporary, the farmers at the tail end of the irrigation canals are advised to utilise the canal water cautiously and go for only short term crops to avoid water problems in the later stage.

Authorities also informed that the upstream Almatti project is receiving about 9,500 cusecs of water and they are releasing 6,000 cusecs of water to downstream Jurala project. Similarly, the upstream Narayanpur project is receiving an everyday inflow of 8,474 cusecs of water and about 4,000 cusecs is released downwards.

In addition to this, the upstream areas of Sunkesula project are also receiving heavy inflows. Because of this, the Sunkesula project on the outskirts of Rajoli, has reached its full reservoir level of 292 meters with a full capacity of 1.20 tmc and the authorities are releasing about 1,800 cusecs into Srisailam reservoir by opening one gate of the project.

The Rajolibanda main canal is flowing at full level up to 2-3 feet and has reached up to the 28 distributaries. However, this flow may last only for one week. The authorities are advising farmers to be cautious and not to go for long-standing crops.
