Hyderabad: Telangana Excise and Prohibition Minister T Padma Rao Goud on Sunday claimed that the government had succeeded in achieving ‘ID Liquor (Illicitly Distilled liquor, also called as ‘gudumba’) free’ status for the State capital this year.

Participating in a programme conducted at Dhoolpet, which has been a hub of ID liquor production in the city, Padma Rao said that the government’s efforts to provide self employment were yielding results as the bootleggers gave up brewing ID liquor and its supply.

Strengthening of the Task force in the Excise Department also helped to contain the ‘gudumba’ menace permanently in many parts of the city, he said. Goud said that government would provide rehabilitation and financial assistance to those who were still engaged in the illicit liquor trade. About 95 per cent of the ID liquor brewers had now shifted to other professions with financial assistance from the government, he said.

Excise Commissioner R Chandravadan and Hyderabad Collector Rahul Bojja were also present in the meeting.
