Muslim leaders call on AICC leader Digvijay Singh and brief him about the conference

Hyderabad: Several eminent personalities, including AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh, announced their complete support to the Tahafuz Shariyat Conference against Uniform Civil Code, proposed to be held in Hyderabad on November 13.

Tahreek Muslim Shabban president Mohammed Mushtaq Mallik, along with Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee Minorities department chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail, TPCC Spokesperson Syed Nizamuddin and TMS Vice-President MA Ghaffar called on Digvijay Singh in New Delhi on Monday and briefed him about the proposed conference.

Mushtaq Mallik said the Uniform Civil Code was not only against the Shariah Laws, but also a major threat to the personal laws of all religious communities. Stressing the need for unity among all secular forces, he urged Digvijay Singh to support the proposed conference.

Mallik said Digvijay Singh had assured his party's support to the proposed conference and said BJP-led NDA government would not be allowed to encroach upon the personal laws of any community. “Constitution of India has guaranteed freedom of religion to all citizens and therefore, the BJP and Sangh Parivar will not be allowed to violate that freedom,” Mallik said.

Later, he met Moulana Salman Nadvi, Moulana Wali Rahmani, Moulana Taqi Raza and other eminent personalities in New Delhi. He informed that he would be meeting other national leaders, including heads of some secular parties, during his stay in New Delhi.

‘Dy CM should be cautious against BJP govt’
Reacting to the meeting between Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday, Mallik advised Mahmood Ali to be cautious in understanding BJP leaders and their policies. "Dy CM, in his statement, has claimed that the BJP government had no intentions to interfere in the Muslim Personal Law or Shariyat. Let Rajnath Singh himself go on record on this issue.

Entire world knows that BJP had promised Uniform Civil Code in its election manifesto. If Rajnath Singh is against Uniform Civil Code, then he should direct Law Commission Chairman Balbir Singh Chauhan to stop preparing report on possibilities of introducing the UCC in the country," he said.

Mushtaq Mallik advised the Deputy CM to take extra precaution while meeting BJP leaders as they might mislead him on sensitive issues concerning
Muslims.
