Nalgonda: BJP state president Dr K Laxman and other leaders were arrested, when they laid siege to the Collectorate here on Wednesday. The police shifted them to One Town police station. Later, they were released on self-surety. Nearly 500 BJP activists staged a dharna and laid siege to the district Collectorate demanding solution to farmers’ issues, including immediate release of third phase amount of crop loan waiver.

The BJP state president, Dr K Laxman, Kisan Morcha state president Goli Madhusudhan Reddy, party district president Sankineni Venkateswar Rao, senior leaders Ramoju Shanmukha, Paduri Karuna, Manohar Reddy, Kasam Venkateswarlu were among those who participated in the protest demonstration.

Keeping in mind the BJP protest, the police closed the gates of the Collectorate as a precautionary measure. Jostling took place between the activists and police when the former tried to barge into the office. High tension prevailed at the collectorate for some time. The police also resorted to mild lathi charge to disburse the agitators.

Earlier addressing the demonstrators, Dr K Laxman alleged that the TRS government has no commitment in implementing its poll promises made to the cultivators. Reminding that drought has been prevailing in the State for two and half years, he charged the TRS government for failing to pay even input subsidy to farmers of drought-hit mandals.

‘The Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, who has been spending crores of rupees of public money in the name of celebrations, is less bothered about the issues faced by the farmers in the State,’ he criticised. The government also failed in effective implementation of the Central government’s scheme ‘Fasal Yojana’. Besides the government was diverting the central funds meant for farmers’ welfare to other purposes, he added.
