Hyderabad: Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao on Tuesday directed the officials to replace all the streetlights in the GHMC limits with LED bulbs by Sankranti.

The Minister was reviewing the process of replacing of streetlights with LED bulbs in municipalities in the State. He directed Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration Dana Kishore to ensure that all the streetlights in municipalities, particularly in Corporations in the State were replaced with LED bulbs. He asked the officials to make agreement with the public sector company EESL.

As far as the GHMC limits are concerned, about 4.5 lakh streetlights will need to be replaced with LED lights by January.

While switching over to LED bulbs, care must be taken to ensure that the cables of CCTVs that have been installed by the police and the cables for wifi facilities do not get damaged.

The LED lights was a smart lighting initiative and would decrease the power bill by at least 50 per cent, he added.

Expressing happiness about working with the Telangana government, EESL MD Saurab Kumar said that they would complete the task of conversion of all the streetlights within GHMC before the deadline.

He said that during the last three and half months, the company has distributed 4.5 lakh LED bulbs. The Minister asked them to further speed up the process, he added.

Saurab said that the company would soon present a report on the use of modern energy efficiency pumpsets, to the government.

This can be useful in reducing the power bills of the water works department, which uses pump sets for pumping water, he said.
