​Jangaon (Warangal): A grand welcome was accorded to former minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah on his arrival here on Wednesday, first time after the announcement of creation of Jangaon district.The district Congress leaders and workers took out a massive procession to welcome him. Lakshmaiah was here on the day to appear before Jangaon sub-court in connection with a case booked against him for violating prohibitory orders imposed under Sec 144 by staging a dharna on June 28 in support of Jangaon district.

Later, Lakshmaiah led a rally along with DCC president N Rajender Reddy, DCC Bank chairman Janga Raghava Reddy, ex-MLA Rega Kantha Rao, the TPCC secretaries EV Srinivasa Rao and Battini Srinivas Rao, city Congress working president R Srihari and others to Jangaon chowrasta. Addressing a gathering, Lakshmaiah wanted the State government to issue notification creating Jangaon district on Dasara festival day without any twists and fully adhering to the aspirations of the local people.

The Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, who promised to make Jangaon headquarter of 11th district in the State, remained unwilling until the public took to the streets protesting. Jangaon division, which got natural resources, structures and places of historic and religious importance, deserves to be district.The CM should understand that in a democratic set up, it was the people and their interests that matter. The Congress leadership in the State would continue to support the public movements wherever and whenever the need arises, he added.
