Release `27 lakh for protecting plants: Collector Dr Yogitha Rana
The District Collector said that 93.09 per cent of the saplings that were planted survived. She said that the job of protecting the plants in 33, 176areas and watering them was entrusted to the MGNREGS workers. ​Nizamabad: District Collector Dr Yogitha Rana urged the State government to release fund worth Rs 27 lakh to setup tree guards to protect the 34,000 saplings that were planted on both sides of the street within the municipality limits. Participating in the video conference called by the Principal Secretary, Environment and Forests, B R Meena and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Department P K Jha, Rana said that a total of 3.61 crore saplings were planted in the district under Haritha Haram and geo-tags were setup for 2.61 crore plants. She said that cent per cent saplings were planted in 701 village panchayat covering the eight Assembly segments in the district. Students were entrusted with the role of inspecting the saplings at the field level in 389 villages, she added.

The District Collector said that 48 nurseries would be started in the year 2017 to supply plants and 2,20 crore bags were already made ready. Around 18 lakh date palm saplings would be cultivated in the nurseries. She said that tree guards should be set up earlier at the place of the pits. Divisional Forest Officers Sujatha, Prasad, Joji and others were present.
