This was his first visit to the DGP’s office after assuming charge as the Chief Minister.

Later in the evening, he held a review meeting at his camp office along with top brass of Police Department and Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy, where he called upon the officials to ensure that all new offices of the Police Department are inaugurated on the day of Dasara.

During the meeting, he instructed the officials to ensure that besides modern equipment, police stations should ensure that infrastructure to facilitate landing of a helicopter meant for surveillance should also be created. He also said in order to control crime, the State would have a police station for 50,000 of population unlike the national average of 97,000.

“For 3.60 crores of population, there would be 709 police stations,” he said. According to sources, during the meeting in DGP office, Chief Minister instructed DGP Anurag Sharma to come up with a list of eligible candidates for promotions. The candidates would be referred to the Departmental Promotion Committee, which is likely to come up within the next two days by induction of higher officials.

Anurag Sharma said there would be a requirement of 82 new police stations, 23 circles and 22 sub divisions in view of 118 newly carved out mandals within the State. He further said that new Commissionerates would be coming up in Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Siddipet, while Mancheryal and Ramagundem areas would get IG rank officials, serving as Commissioners. “Henceforth, the State will have a total of 8 police commissionerates after the reorganisation of districts,” he said.
