​Vikarabad: Health Minister C Laxma Reddy has appealed private institutions to organise health camps in rural areas and spread awareness among the people. He was inaugurating the Mahavir Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) here on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that a 100-bed hospital was inaugurated in this area and people around this region would get benefitted from the services. Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy, who was also present, said the people of this region were poor and medical services should reach them.

Chevella MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, Vikarabad MLA B Sanjeeva Rao, MLC Yadava Reddy, Dr lshari K Ganesh, Chairman of Vels Group of Institutions and others were present during the inauguration. Vels Group has already set up Meghana Institute of Dental Sciences (MIDS) in Nizamabad and the MIMS is the second institution set up by it in the State.

The MIMS will commence the MBBS course from this academic year with an intake of 150 seats. The medical college has air-conditioned lecture halls equipped with modern teaching tools and facilities and is supported by a 350-bedded hospital with hi-end equipment, labs, animal house, library, computer lab, canteen, playground, gymnasium, hostels for men and women and staff quarters.

The MIMS offers clinical and para-clinical curriculum, including general medicine, paediatrics, respiratory and chest medicine, psychiatry, dermatology, general surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics & gynaecology, ophthalmology, ENT, dental, pathology, microbiology, biochemistry and radio-diagnostics. The institution has cream of the faculty with years of teaching and clinical experience.
