No re-registration of vehicles in new districts
Vehicle owners who got their registration numbers changed from AP to TS after formation of Telangana State can retain the same numbers even after the new districts were carved.
Hyderabad: Vehicle owners who got their registration numbers changed from AP to TS after formation of Telangana State can retain the same numbers even after the new districts were carved.
At present, the vehicles have number series from TS 01 to TS 16 and the number series for the new proposed districts would start from TS 17 onwards. The new series would be applicable for the new vehicles.
A senior official in the transport department said the vehicle owners, who have been wondering whether they would have to change their district code series once new districts were formed, can be rest assured that they need not change them.
The transport department, he said, was ready to start functioning from new districts from Dasara and would register some vehicles on that day.
Transport Commissioner Sandeep Sultania told The Hans India that the regional offices of the department would now be called District Transport Offices.
The department is taking steps to ensure smooth functioning in the new districts like Malkajgiri, Shamshabad and Vikarabad as these areas along with Hyderabad contribute 70 per cent of the revenues to the department.
Sultania said the department registered a growth of 23 per cent compared to previous year, which is highest growth in the last five years.
