Hyderabad: CPI national council secretary K Narayana on Friday found fault with the Commission on Rohit Vemula’s suicide focussing on Rohit’s caste though it was part of the terms of reference of the inquiry. He said the Commission should have probed the reasons behind Rohit’s suicide.

Narayana said Union Ministers Smrithi Irani and Bandaru Dattatreya would have gone to jail if the Commission recognised Rohit as a Dalit and hence the Commission had submitted a false report to the Centre.

He recalled that the Guntur District Collector had given a report saying that Rohit was a Dalit. The Mandal Revenue Officer concerned had also given a caste certificate saying that Rohit was a Dalit.

The Central Scheduled Castes Commission also announced that Rohit was a Dalit. Narayana urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make it clear whether Commission’s report was correct or Guntur district Collector’s report was correct on Rohit’s caste.
