​New Delhi: Industries Minister K T Rama Rao on Friday met Baba Kalyani of Bharat Forge and requested him to explore the possibility of investing in aerospace and defence sectors in Telangana.

KTR briefed Baba Kalyani about the Telangana state government’s desire to set up aero-technology university for which Kalyani agreed to cooperate with the government in its efforts. Appreciating the programmes and policies of the state government, Kalyani agreed to visit Hyderabad to meet Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, according to KTR.

KTR, who is in Delhi in connection with the World Economic Forum meet, met various industry leaders and sought investments in Telangana state.KTR also met chairman and managing director of JK Tyres Raghupathi Singhania and explained to him about the opportunities in setting up paper mills in the state.

The minister urged him to invest in Sirpur Paper Mills and the latter promised to visit the State to explore the possibilities. KTR discussed HP company’s expansion plans in Hyderabad and smart city solutions with the HP India managing director Neelam Dhawan who agreed to the minister’s proposal to develop one town in Telangana as a smart city on a pilot basis. HP also agreed to cooperate with the state government in providing effective public services like water and power supply using technology.

The minister spoke about the establishment of a dry port in the state and opportunities in the logistics sector with DHL managing director Vikas Anand. KTR spoke with MD of Ashok Leyland Vinod Dasari about the automobile sector. With the setting up of Mahindra plant in Telangana, KTR stated that the state was attracting investments in automotive sector.

He requested Vinod Dasari to set up a unit of Ashok Leyland in the state. Vinod promised to send a team to study the potential. KTR also requested the delegation from British Telecom and ZTE to set up a telecom equipment plant in the state. He also met Accenture group chairperson Rekha Malhotra Menon and requested her to expand their unit in the state. Later, he met MD of Siemens India Sunil Mathur.

In his meeting with Philip Rosler of the World Economic Forum, K T Rama Rao briefed about the policies of the state government. Rosler agreed to visit the state and assured to make Telangana a partner state in the World Economic Forum summit at Davos.

He lauded the initiatives of the state government and said that the initiatives have brought a positive atmosphere for investments in the state. The minister also met the top leadership of CII, including its president Naushad Forbes and Director General Chandrajit Banerjee.

They briefed the minister about the role being played by the CII and said they have tie ups with around 3,200 companies throughout the world. The minister sought their cooperation in attracting investments to the state.
