Prof Haragopal addressed a memorial meeting organised at KU Arts and Science College in Hanamkonda on Friday, organised by Human Rights Forum (HRF) Warangal district committee in honour of noted human rights’ activist, Prof K Balagopal, whose death anniversary falls on October 8.  

Warangal: Noted political scientist Prof G Haragopal has called upon the public to rise up to question the misdeeds of the governments to protect their rights.He said in a democratic system the public should act as counterbalance to check and question the violence and wrongdoings by the State. Without such an offsetting force, the governments would act as per their whims and fancies.

Prof Haragopal addressed a memorial meeting organised at KU Arts and Science College in Hanamkonda on Friday, organised by Human Rights Forum (HRF) Warangal district committee in honour of noted human rights’ activist, Prof K Balagopal, whose death anniversary falls on October 8.

On the occasion, he expressed concern over the suppressive acts by the state aimed at those questioning it. He said governments at the Centre and in the states have been causing destruction in the name of development and in doing so were displacing innocent tribals from their natural habitat.

Polavaram irrigation project and bauxite mining in AP and similar projects in other places were destructive in nature. Developmental activities should have a humanitarian approach and they should be value based, he felt.
