Bhadrachalam (Khammam): CPI (M) MLA Sunnam Rajaiah’s fast-unto-death demanding a new district with Bhadrachalam as its headquarters entered second day on Friday. It may be mentioned here that Rajaiah launched his indefinite hunger strike near bus stand here demanding a separate Adivasi district.

On the second day, several leaders including Congress Deputy Floor Leader in the Council Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, former Union minister Porika Balaram Naik, Telugu Desam district president Tulluri Brahmaiah, CPI-ML New Democracy district secretary Potu Ranga Rao and various Adivasi organisations visited the hunger strike venue and expressed their solidarity with the MLA.

The leaders said that Bhadrachalam, touted as Dakshin Ayodhya, if made a district would address the needs of aboriginal people living in the Agency. The leaders also found fault with the government for merging Wajedu and Venkatapuram mandals with the proposed Bhupalpally district.A cross section of society including the local body of the Indian Medical Association also expressed their support to Rajaiah’s stir.
