Mulug (Warangal): Tense situation prevailed in Mulug town in view of the day-long protests on Friday seeking creation of Sammakka Saralamma district.Sammakka Saralamma Mulug Zilla Sadhana Samithi founder M Bikshapathi and an activist Suresh Kumar attempted suicide by dousing themselves with petrol during a rasta-roko on NH 163 at the town.However, the alert police thwarted their attempt and shifted them to local government hospital for treatment. No incidents of violence took place on the day like it happened on Thursday as both the public and police maintained restraint.

Yet there was some tension at the town as three youth climbed a cell phone tower threatening to commit suicide if Mulug district was not created. Public in huge numbers gathered on the roads staging rasta-rokos and rallies and the police were also deployed in large numbers to control the situation.The protests staged for about five hours resulted in disruption of the vehicular traffic which was diverted from the main road. Mulug ASP Vishwajit Kampati along with senior police officials monitored the situation.

Leaders of the Opposition parties Seetakka, K Somanna, J Ravinder, T Bharath Reddy, Nallela Kumar and TRS leader S Shoban joined the protests. An MPTC called Govind Naik of Abbapur quit his post in support of the demand of creation of Mulug district.

Speaking to press persons, Seetakka wanted the Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, to look into the just demand of Mulug people. The CM, who promised to consider the public views in creating new districts, should create Mulug district as the locals were demanding it.
