Hyderabad: The Telangana government is planning to come out with a comprehensive Musi River conservation plan and social activists in the city want the government to involve citizens before a plan is made.

M Veda Kumar, president, Forum For A Better Hyderabad, said that in the past several plans were made in silo and unless a drainage system was not discussed in the scheme of things, the conservation plan would be meaningless. He was speaking at a talk organised by the Forum For A Better Hyderabad on ‘Musi River Conservation Plan.’

Concurring with the view, Bro Verghees who has been raising his voice for the rejuvenation of Musi River said, “The most important aspect is to make a plan on the premise that Musi is a River and not a land to be used for commercial purpose. Secondly, the Musi provides livelihood for people and even to this day helps irrigate land in downstream villages.”

The talk on the government’s plan was to be delivered by a GHMC official who failed to turn up citing a busy schedule did not go down well with the members but said that they would continue imposing pressure on the government to make a plan that brings back Musi River to its former glory.
