Hyderabad: As part of modernisation of police department, Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy along with Union Minister of Labour Bandaru Dattatreya laid foundation stone for new buildings, which will come up at the four existing police stations in the city at a cost of Rs 16 crore.

Addressing the media at Golconda police station, after laying foundation stones at Nampally, Santoshnagar and Kulsumpura police stations, Home Minister said the new police stations would appear like corporate offices where a ‘receptionist’ would receive complaints and forward them to the concerned Inspector.

He said as part of effective handling of cases, the complaints would not only be forwarded to official within the police station, but also uploaded online thereby bringing in more transparency. “The complaint could be viewed by officials at the level of DGP, while reducing the chances of ‘missing complaints’ by officials at police stations,” he said.

As part of friendly policing, the other police stations which would be modernised are Asifnagar, S R Nagar, Saidabad and Kachiguda, he said. “Sub Inspector would be submitting the report more efficiently with the new mechanism being adopted by the police stations,” he added.

While emphasising the importance of internal security, Bandaru Dattatreya said similar to protection of borders by the security forces, the policemen were upholding internal security and winning the people’s trust. He said Union government has brought development to Maoist-infested States by taking up development programmes.

“The Union government has allocated Rs 290 crore for improving the roads in Naxal-infested areas. On the same lines, I shall convince the Centre to provide some kind of package to the State,” he asserted. This programme was attended by Karwan MLA Kausar Mohiuddin, TS Police Housing Corporation Limited and City Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy and others.
