Warangal: MGM Hospital (MGMH) sick newborn care unit (SNCU) has received level-II accreditation from National Neonatology Forum of India (NNFI).A team of officials of the NNFI have visited MGM Hospital’s neonatal wing on August 10 to assess the quality of services, infrastructure and medical equipment available at the hospital and to issue the accreditation.

United Nations Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) state consultant Dr RSV Srikrishna along with the UNICEF Hyderabad chief of field office Ruth Leano and its deputy representative to India, James Gitau have visited MGM a couple of days ago and presented the accreditation.Gitau appreciated the SNCUs’ functioning and impressed with Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) ward at the MGMH. The KMC at the hospital is the largest one in south India and is advocated by the UNICEF for care of preterm newborns.

Doctors B Balram and M Yogi have informed that the MGMH, the teaching hospital Kakatiya Medical College, is the only hospital in South India to receive level–II accreditation from the NNFI.The UNICEF has been striving to bring down infant mortality rate in the country by reducing neonatal mortality rate, Dr. Srikrishna said.
