Warangal: Telugu Desam Party leaders tore into the TRS government for failing to lend a helping hand to the farmers distressed due to vagaries of nature.The party leaders took out a massive protest rally from Ekasila Park to the district collectorate in Hanamkonda on Thursday. They staged a dharna squatting on the road in front of the collectorate.

The party state president L Ramana, working president A Revanth Reddy, state general secretary Seetakka, district president G Satyanarayana Rao, senior leaders Revuri Prakash Reddy and E Peddi Reddy led the protest.They wanted compensation of Rs 50,000 to paddy and Rs 25,000 to other crops, damaged due to recent torrential rains, release of loan waiver dues at once, paying of compensation to all the families of farmers, who committed suicide and to stop forcible land acquisition from farmers.

Addressing the gathering, Revanth Reddy alleged that the State government has miserably failed to control fake seeds companies. As a result of which thousands of farmers have suffered losses that ran into hundreds of crores of rupees. ‘The Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is the reason for the farmers’ sufferings and their losses due to fake seeds. One of the CM’s relatives is involved in fake seeds racket and he is being backed by KCR’.
Agriculture commissioner Priyadarshini enquired into the sale of spurious seeds and issued notices to eight erring seeds companies, asking to compensate the affected farmers with a caution of cancelling the companies’ licenses. ‘But the official was sent on long leave. This is what happening in KCR’s rule,’ Revanth Reddy alleged.

Similarly in Mahabubnagar, agriculture officials submitted a report asking the government to collect Rs 600 crores from seeds companies that sold fake chilli seeds and pay the amount as compensation to farmers. But the government didn’t act.Nearly 2,600 farmers have ended their lives but only 342 were given compensation since the formation of separate Telangana. The CM feels that farmers in the State were very happy because he was earning one crore rupees per acre from his fields, the TDP leader noted.TDP state present Ramana demanded the government book criminal cases against the companies, which produced fake seeds. He wanted Rs 40,000 per acre for chilli farmers, who lost crop due to fake seeds.Senior leaders Vem Narender Reddy and others were present.
