Telangana to bring in admin reforms in big way

​Hyderabad: To ensure good governance and greater transparency in the administration all newly-formed 21 districts in the State, the State government is all set to bring in administrative reforms in a big way.

The reforms include creation of Deputy Secretary post in every district headquarters apart from the existing posts of Collector and Joint Collector to look after land and Revenue affairs, creation of posts of coordinators in each district to assist Collectors in the implementation of welfare schemes and the appointment of Regional Coordinators for every four district to oversee the functioning of the new districts.

Officials said on the instructions of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, the Revenue and other important Departments were holding series of meetings to streamline the administration in the new districts though administrative reforms.

Top officials said the government had proposed to appoint senior IAS officials as Regional Coordinators to ensure speedy approval of proposals to help implement development and welfare programmes. The Regional Coordinators will be assigned the responsibility of ensuring that proposals sent by the district authorities are approved by the government without delay.

To ensure more accountability, State government is also planning to bring in changes in GO 77 and fix targets to each official for the successful implementation of the programmes. However, the executive powers accorded to the Collectors would continue to remain as it is.

Sources said that the government had already requested the Union government for the allotment of nearly 100 IAS and IPS officers to meet the shortage of officers after the creation of new districts. If the Centre fails to allot officers, the government is considering the possibility of appointing Group-I officers in new posts.
