The forest officials have been engaged in setting up a deer park at the lake near Bussapur village of Govindaraopet mandal in the district. The park will be set up in 25 acres land spread amid lush green hills at an estimated cost of Rs 40 lakh.
The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden AK Srivatsava has approved the proposal to set up the deer park at Laknavaram Lake. The district administration of undivided Warangal has allocated Rs 20 lakh and the forest department will allot Rs 20 lakh from its side for the park.
Former forest official and advisor to State government A Shankaran, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) (wildlife) K Purushotham, Govindraopet tahsildar M Srinivas and other officials visited the proposed site at Bussapur village recently and inspected the arrangements. “Technically it is a Deer Rescue Centre and commonly it is referred to as deer park. Deer which as are in excess at zoos will be brought here to get acclimatised to wild environs before let off in the forests,” DFO Purushotham told The Hans India.
Spotted deer, sambar, nilgai and other animals of the deer family will be kept at the park. A fencing covering the entire stretch of the park will be constructed to protect the deer. The district administration has assigned the rural water supply department to construct sheds and over head water tank at the site.
A parking place in about three acres for facilitating parking of vehicles of the tourists arriving to visit Laknavaram Lake and the park will be constructed. It is expected to get funds from the tourism department towards setting up the parking place. “The deer park will be a great value addition in promoting tourism potential of Laknavaram Lake,” Purushotham said.
It may be recalled that under the central Government sponsored tribal tourism circuit progarmme Tribal Multi-product Display Centre, cottages, view towers, log huts, rock garden, gazebos and other facilities will be constructed at the lake. The Centre has sanctioned Rs 17.74 crore for the purpose.
